Bottled in Dufftown, Scotland, Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Whisky is a triple malt with a smooth character. Scotland is all about whisky and the Speyside region is full of distilleries, each producing their very own malt selections.
Monkey Shoulder takes three of Speyside's best malts - Glenfiddich, Balvenie, and Kininie - and blends them together to create a smooth, flavourful whisky. The blend is matured in ex-bourbon casks, giving the resting whisky a smooth vanilla flavour. After 3 to 6 months, the casks are opened and tasted before being bottled and receiving the triple Monkey badge.
Inhaling Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Whisky, you get an instant smell of tangy orange, soft vanilla, sweet honey, and spiced oak. Upon tasting, the vanilla becomes stronger and a few hints of spice pleasantly tickle your tongue. The finish is silky smooth, displaying the whisky's fine quality; definitely a whisky best enjoyed neat.
The name itself is a reference to a condition which maltmen used to pick up from working long shifts. The maltmen would turn the barley by hand, which sometimes caused their arms to hang down like a monkey's, and so the condition was named 'Monkey Shoulder'. Monkey Shoulder's maltmen still turn the barley by hand but working conditions have greatly improved, making 'Monkey Shoulder' a thing of the past.
