Welcome to our newest local supplier, Wildwood Hens, who have got a real treat in store for you this Easter – wild garlic eggs. Their hens have been foraging freely in Dorset woodland near Stourton Caundle over the past couple of weeks, feasting on the new season's fresh wild garlic, which gives the eggs a unique herby flavour.

The Wildwood flock is owned by local hen-keeper Avril Jape.  She said: “They make brilliant mushroom omelettes, offering more than a hint of garlic – and the eggs are full of fantastic antioxidants and trace elements. My girls go mad for the wild garlic leaves and I'm so happy to be able to offer local family-run Dorset supermarket Dike & Son our first flush of eggs for their clientele, just in time for Easter!”

One of the distinctive quirks of these eggs is the greenish tinge that the wild garlic lends to the yolks. Children's author Dr Seuss first noted it in his iconic 1960 children's book, Green Eggs and Ham.

We think you'll love these eggs and you can try them first hand in our Cafe this weekend, as part of our legendary Farmhouse breakfast.

In the meantime, Wildwood Hens are out there working tirelessly in the rain to make sure they can round up their next delivery of April fowl's eggs for our very lucky customers.
